Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan can double trade turnover

 

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan may be increased to $3 billion, Uzbek President Islam Karimov told journalists in Astana on Friday.

“Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan can double turnover up to $3 billion in the next two or three years,” Karimov said. According to him, this figure however, does not reflect all the features of both countries.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that there is a significant increase in trade between the two countries in the first half of 2012 which reached almost $1 billion. He added that trade turnover will be doubled by 2015-2016.

According to the results of the negotiations, a number of documents including a joint statement by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, are aimed at consolidating and adding further strategic cooperation between the two countries, an agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the readmission and transit of persons, an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on terms of mutual trips of citizens and a protocol amending the agreement between the two governments on points through the Kazakh-Uzbek border were signed.
