Uzbek President to visit Kazakhstan in early September

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will be in Kazakhstan on an official visit in early September, a government source told Trend. The source noted that the visit to Astana is scheduled for September 6-7.

Kazakhstan is one of Uzbekistan’s major trading partners accounting for more than half the republic’s trade turnover with the countries of the region. In 2011, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $2.7 billion. At the same time, there is significant unrealised potential for further development of bilateral trade between the countries.

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are playing a significant role in the decision of many fundamental issues of security, stability and sustainable development in the region.

The interaction in the framework of international and regional organisations also shows the progressive development of Kazakh-Uzbek relations.

A solid legal basis has been established between the states’ Economic Cooperation Strategy until 2016..

It is expected that the upcoming meeting of the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, not only consolidates the level of bilateral relations, but will also contribute to the further development of cooperation and help find solutions to pressing regional issues.
