Uzbek President to visit Kazakhstan in early September
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will be in Kazakhstan on an official visit in early September, a government source told Trend. The source noted that the visit to Astana is scheduled for September 6-7.
Kazakhstan is one of Uzbekistan’s major trading partners accounting for more than half the republic’s trade turnover with the countries of the region. In 2011, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $2.7 billion. At the same time, there is significant unrealised potential for further development of bilateral trade between the countries.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are playing a significant role in the decision of many fundamental issues of security, stability and sustainable development in the region.
German Foreign Minister to visit Kazakhstan
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will pay an official visit to Kazakhstan on August 29, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Altai Abibullayev.
“On August 29 German Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will pay his first official visit to our country. He will also take part in an international convention on nuclear testing ban in the period of freedom from nuclear weapons,” Abibullayev said on Monday at the press briefing.
Within the visit Westerwelle plans to meet with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov and Kazakh Industry and New Technologies Minister Asset Issekeshev.
“During the visit a wide range of issues will be discussed, including the Iranian nuclear program, with regard to Germany’s participation in the negotiations 5 +1. Moreover it is expected to discuss the situation in Syria and security in the Central Asian region,” Abibullayev said.
Moreover, the parties will discuss legalization of the agreements reached during Kazakh President’s official visit to Germany in February 2012.
Almaty to host meeting of developing countries’ trade ministers
On September 12-14, Almaty will host a meeting of the ministers of trade of landlocked developing countries, as well as global thematic meeting on international trade, trade facilitation and trade promotion, the Kazakh Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said on Monday.
“The event will be attended by ministers of 30 landlocked countries, all UN member states, including transit developing countries and representatives of international organizations,” the statement says.
These activities are aimed to develop common positions of the developing countries, reflecting their need for trade negotiations, as well as strategies, new activities and actions to further enhance the capacity of these countries.

La kazaka Svetlana Podobedova ha vinto la medaglia d’oro olimpica di sollevamento pesi, categoria 75 kg, con un totale di 291 kg.
Nel 2010 era stata nominata miglior sollevatrice pesi dell’anno dalla Federazione Internazionale Sollevamento Pesi. Il suo compagno, il kazako Vladimir Sedov, è Campione mondiale di sollevamento pesi.

Vietnam shows interest in joining Customs Union
KAZINFORM Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang looks into an opportunity for Vietnam to join the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. The Vietnamese leader made this statement at a press conference in Naryan-Mar, the Russian Federation, on 29 July, according to BelTA.
In his words, at the meetings with the Russian leadership there was discussed a possibility to expedite the negotiations to sign an agreement on free trade. “We have agreed to announce the start of negotiations on the free trade agreement at the APEC summit in Vladivostok in September 2012,” the Vietnamese President stated. “We hope that with a strong political will of the leadership of our countries as well as of our Belarusian and Kazakhstani friends and partners, we will be able to launch this process soon and complete it as an agreement on Vietnam’s accession to the Customs Union,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the agreement on Vietnam’s accession to the Customs Union would give a huge stimulus to mutual relations and trade.
