Kazakhstan launches construction of Balkhash thermal power plant
A laying ceremony by Balkhash TPP construction was held in Astana using in television space bridge with the participation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
“We give the nod to start the construction,” Nazarbayev said at the ceremony.
He noted that the need for the TPP construction is due to consumption growth resulting in a shortage of electricity in the southern region of Kazakhstan, where 40 per cent of the population resides.
“The industrial development of Kazakhstan is impossible without the construction of plants producing electricity, the deficit of which we always felt in the south. With the end of the construction of this facility, we become non-volatile,” Nazarbayev said.
Kazakh and Korean presidents discuss situation in Central Asia
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has today held a meeting with South Korean counterpart Lee Myung Bak, who paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Embassy in Korea said today, CA-NEWS reported.
According to the report, this is the fifth meeting between the two countries for the last 3 years.
More than 300 joint ventures successfully operate in Kazakhstan. The total amount of South Korean investments is about $ 4 billion.
During the talks, Nazarbayev and Lee Myung Bak have discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Central Asia. They focused on the issues of nuclear disarmament and overcoming the consequences of the global financial and economic crisis.
Kazakhstan, South Korea to conduct exploration in Caspian shelf
Kazakhstan and South Korea plan to work together and to conduct exploration to find hydrocarbons and rare earth metals in Kazakhstan, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said in Ak Orda today.
“We have agreed to start active operations at the Zhambyl field next year,” Lee Myung-bak said after his talks with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Zhambyl deposit is located in the Kazakh part of the Caspian shelf.
Lee Myung-bak also said that Korean companies will participate in the construction of a gas chemical complex in Atyrau region.
President Nazarbayev added that both countries intend to unite forces for the extraction of rare earth metals.
“We will work to extract rare earth metals in exchange for advanced technologies with Korean companies,” Nazarbayev said. “South Korea’s technologies and industry are the best.”
Kazakhstan achieves record on grain exports
Some 12.7 million tons of grain including flour in grain equivalent are shipped for exports in Kazakhstan in 2011-2012 marketing year, which is 2.5 times more than in 2010-2011 marketing year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan said on Wednesday.
According to the Statistics Agency and JSC NC Қazahstan Railways, Kazakhstan shipped 8.9 million tons of wheat and 2.6 million tones of flour for export as of September 10, 2012.
Thus, Kazakhstan achieved record on grain exports in 2011-2012 marketing year.
The average amount of grain shipments for export (including flour in grain equivalent) amounted to more than one million tones.
Kazakh president recommends diplomats make new approaches
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has recommended diplomats should make new approaches to their work. The president made this statement in Astana on Wednesday, while delivering an interactive lecture to the Nazarbayev University students.
“Our foreign ministry must change the way they work,” he added. “Besides wearing a tailcoat, going to parties and building embassies here and there, it is necessary to find out the pragmatic and beneficial ways for Kazakhstan’s cooperation.”
He stressed that a new approach to international cooperation is being formed today. The focus will be made on small and medium enterprises in domestic industries. This must be a guideline for Kazakh diplomats.
“Our foreign ministry must re-establish its work to operate this way,” Nazarbayev said.
Kazakh president discusses Atyrau oblast industrial innovative development
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has received akim of Atyrau oblast Baktykozha Izmukhambetov, Ak Orda reported today.
Urgent issues of regional development were discussed during the meeting. Among them are the implementation of the projects within the programme of forced industrial-innovative development and prospects of social modernisation.
Following the meeting, the president has given specific instructions on further socio-economic development and an effective and targeted use of budgetary funds.
Implementation of oil and gas projects discussed in Kazakhstan
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev received the director general of the directorate under construction enterprises of KazMunaiGas, Nurlan Balgimbaev on Tuesday, the Akorda said.
During the meeting the president was briefed on the progress of projects for the reconstruction of the Pavlodar petrochemical plant, construction of a gas turbine plant in the West Kazakhstan region, gas processing plants at Karachaganak and a shipyard in the Mangistau region, as well as work for the exploration of the Isatay and Shagala fields in the Caspian Sea.
Currently, the feasibility study of all the projects have been prepared, state examination and public hearing are being held and sources of funding and the general contractors determined.
Following the meeting, the president gave specific instructions on the further implementation of the project as scheduled.
Kazakistan-Uzbekistan: Raro vertice Nazarbayev-Karimov

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan can double trade turnover
Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan may be increased to $3 billion, Uzbek President Islam Karimov told journalists in Astana on Friday.
“Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan can double turnover up to $3 billion in the next two or three years,” Karimov said. According to him, this figure however, does not reflect all the features of both countries.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that there is a significant increase in trade between the two countries in the first half of 2012 which reached almost $1 billion. He added that trade turnover will be doubled by 2015-2016.

“La nuova situazione presenta sfide per la sicurezza interna di ogni Paese. Tutto questo in diversi Paesi potrebbe portare a tensioni sociali, istigazioni, rivolte, conflitti interetnici e religiosi, e minacce da parte di organizzazioni terroristiche”, ha affermato Nazarbaiev in una lezione agli studenti dell’università che porta il suo nome ad Astana. “Il nostro lavoro – ha aggiunto è ridurre questi rischi quanto più possibile”.
In Kazakhstan, considerato il più stabile dei Paesi dell’Asia centrale, negli ultimi mesi si sono verificati episodi di violenza ufficialmente non attribuiti ad azioni terroristiche.
